To streamline the decision making process when considering a new weather station, we've decided to group available instruments in Stages, by overall sensor suite capability. As the Stage value increases, the overall measurement capability and accuracy of the included instruments increases. Because we offer weather stations across a wide range of applications, we felt this would be a great way to determine the level of measurement appropriate for any individual need, and assign that weather station a Stage. It's important to note that stations are not grouped by price, brand or included accessories, but rather by the overall sensor suite included with the system. Higher Stage value does not necessarily correlate to "better," but rather "more capable."
The guide on this page will help determine the measurement capabilities you would like in your weather station, and a suggested Stage to start considering available products.
It should be noted that these Stages are subjective, and purely assigned as a guide when shopping around. Our Stages do not include every Weather Station available for purchase, and we are always available to assist by phone or email when determining the right product for your needs.
Stage Descriptions:
Stage 1:
These weather stations are robust, simple and offer an array of environmental sensors. Stage 1 systems include:
- An integrated anemometer and wind vane,
- A temperature and relative humidity sensor in a passive radiation shield,
- An integrated tipping spoon rain gauge,
- Barometric pressure sensor,
- Solar panel and replaceable internal battery.
We highly recommend these stations for those new to installing a weather station and monitoring their local conditions. Stage 1 Weather Stations transmit data wirelessly and require a Console or Uplink to access measurements.
Stage 2:
These weather stations offer professional grade environmental measurement in a simple installation package. Stage 2 systems include:
- An anemometer and wind vane that can be relocated nearby,
- A temperature and relative humidity sensor with a 12-Hour Daytime Fan Aspirated and Nighttime passive radiation shield,
- Integrated cone-shaped tipping spoon rain gauge ideal for capturing accurate rain measurements in high winds,
- Barometric pressure sensor,
- Solar panel and large internal battery backup.
Stage 3:
These weather stations offer professional grade environmental measurement in a simple installation package. These systems include a 24-Hour Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield. The purpose of the fan aspiration is to circulate ambient air over the temperature and relative humidity sensor, ensuring a higher degree of accuracy by reducing stagnant air. Stage 3 systems include:
- An anemometer and wind vane that can be relocated nearby,
- A temperature and relative humidity sensor in a dedicated 24-Hour Fan Aspirated radiation shield,
- Integrated cone-shaped tipping spoon rain gauge ideal for capturing accurate rain measurements in high winds,
- Barometric pressure sensor,
- Dual Solar panels and large internal battery backup.
Stage 4:
These weather stations offer the most comprehensive, professional grade environmental measurement in a simple installation package. These systems include Solar and UV sensors. This complete weather monitoring solution is perfect for scientific research, educational institutions, and professional applications. Stage 4 systems include:
- An anemometer and wind vane that can be relocated nearby,
- A temperature and relative humidity sensor with a 12-Hour Daytime Fan Aspirated and Nighttime passive radiation shield,
- Integrated cone-shaped tipping spoon rain gauge ideal for capturing accurate rain measurements in high winds,
- Barometric pressure sensor,
- Solar and UV monitoring sensors,
- Solar panel and large internal battery backup.
Stage 5:
These weather stations offer the most comprehensive, professional grade environmental measurement in a simple installation package. This complete weather monitoring solution is perfect for scientific research, educational institutions, and professional applications. These systems include a 24-Hour Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield to circulate ambient air over the temperature and relative humidity sensor, ensuring a higher degree of accuracy by reducing stagnant air.
